BRIEF DESCRIPTION :

The REF250 features new enhancements outside as well as major performance advances inside.

DESCRIPTION :

First, you will notice a more modern, monochromatic appearance, including a new front panel with a small aluminum power button: natural units include silver handles and top cover, while black units come with black panel, handles and top cover. A new analog meter replaces the vacuum-fluorescent digital display of its predecessor; this illuminated meter is capable of displaying power output, line voltage and output tube bias settings. Adjustment pots for tube bias are located just underneath the meter. Meter illumination has three levels including “off.”With the new metering design, a remote control is unnecessary. Near the front of the circuit board inside the REF250 there is a small LCD display showing accumulated tube hours, visible with the top cover in place.

The fan on the rear of each chassis now features low-turbulence intake grids and has two selectable speeds for ultra quiet and effective cooling. The detachable power cord remains the 20-amp IEC type used on the REF210. There are two 12V triggers on the back panel, along with 4-, 8- and 16-ohm output taps. Those who have experienced first-hand the dramatic performance advances of the new REF150 stereo amplifier vs. the previous REF110 will find a similar range of improvements in the REF250 – perhaps even more dramatic. A new power transformer and 50% more bulk energy storage, along with KT120 output tubes, give the REF250 tremendous impact, bass speed, control, and definition.

And, new Teflon-technology capacitors also improve resolution and focus on every type of musical program.Explosive micro and and macro dynamics, a very low noise floor, and vice-like control over every type of loudspeaker will be recognized as the benchmark of this remarkable power amplifier. The measure of what constitutes state of-the-art performance is being redefined by Audio Research, once again. We feel that this is the finest amplifier we have ever produced.
